Chinese New Year 2009, the year of OX

On the 26th of January 2009 marks the 1st day of Chinese New Year, the year of Earth Ox. Wishing my readers 'Happy Prosperous Chinese New Year' when all the good things you wish for actualize for you and your family.

Chinese always relate pronounciation of name of things & simbols to good lucks & good wishes. For example:During the eve, the chinese family would eat black moss. The Cantonese calls it 'Fatt Choi' meaning multiplying or bursting blessing.

The orange represents gold. That is only the mandarin orange or 'Lo Kam' and not the ones from California 'Sunkist'. It used to be a practice in the olden days to bring two oranges during their visit to the elders and in reciprocation, they will return two. Two is the symbol of completeness in a couple, a man and a woman also called "yin & yang'.
'Gong Hei Fatt Choy' means Congratulations in mandarin and cantonese, also means "Be Prosperous" too.
'Sum Seung See Sing' direct translation from Cantonese: Heart think things happen or May your wishes come true.

'Maan See Sing Yee' direct translation from Cantonese: Everything exceed wish or May your wishes be exceeded.

'Sun Tai Geen Hong' direct translation from Cantonese: Body Healthy or Good Health.
The above picture named "Si" means Happiness. Widely used as decor for chinese wedding/marrige or engagement. It represents togetherness too, just look at the chinese character in this above picture.
